This weekend we bring you a study conducted by IAN (Interactive Autism Network)- on families on the accessibility of these treatments, and if they have been successful for them. Interesting enough, out of 2,400 IAN families using occupational therapy, 64% reported using OT alone while 36% reported using at least one sensory integration technique in conjunction. Furthermore, 200 families mentioned using one or more of the sensory integration techniques without using OT at all. We at T.Ware feels that sensory integration techniques are extremely beneficial for the individuals and that it should be more widely accepted and researched into, the stats above just do no justice to SI techniques. What is shocking after is the results expected before: And this is after: With over 89% of families reporting that the symptoms improved and 86% of the families who experienced improvement had seen a significant amount of improvement.
We believe that as much as you need OT treatments, SI treatments play a complimentary part which do have a high chance of providing beneficial effects. What are your thoughts? would you use just OT alone or do you believe in SI as much as we do? :) Read more from the original article: http://www.autismspeaks.org/news/news-item/ian-research-findings-occupational-therapy *Tables are taken from the above link
