T.Ware Hapathon!

What do athletes, new parents, people who experience severe muscular pain and busy commuters have in common?
Answer: we believe all these groups (and more) face problems which can be solved with T.Ware’s technology!

We concluded this during our Hapathon.
Our what?!
Our Hapathon - A Haptics technology Hackathon of course – a T.Ware special!

We started this week with a crazy session of ideating, brainstorming and value creation. We had two teams
comprising hustlers, hipsters and hackers and we had some friendly competition in a bid to see who came up with the more awesome idea.

We explored using different tools, and this time, we used the Lean Canvas  and Bud Caddell’s diagram as tools for the session. They were awesome – forced us to evaluate decisions, assess addressable market and made us think long and hard about the changes we want to make in this world.

Beyond the new ideas that we’re excited to bring to life, the tools reaffirmed what we’ve always known - that we’re a team that’s passionate about doing the things we believe in.

If you’re thinking of coming on board to change the world, drop us a call/email/visit. We want to hear from you.

Cheers,
T.Ware

What a great way to start our weekend - we had a T.Jacket Introduction Session with the wonderful team of therapists from Nurture Pods last Friday evening!

T.Ware is proud to be assisting Nurture Pods in their mission to provide comprehensive and individualized intervention services to help children with special needs!
Picture
The session covered the T.Jacket essentials (1. Features, 2. Trial results, 3. User profiles, 4. Strategic introduction of T.Jacket to minimize resistance for those who are tactile and auditory defensive), before moving on to the fun part – the demo! Everyone tried T.Jacket on and was really pleased with the comforting feeling they got from it! Some of the therapists even managed to fit into a jacket sized Child S before realizing it was probably not meant to be!

The energy level was great -the Nurture Pods team has already sprung into action and identified how T.Jacket can be integrated into the variety of effective early intervention programs already in practice. Beyond calming and comforting, T.Jacket helps the wearer settle down quickly, and improves attention and focus. Nurture Pods starts using T.Jacket during sessions with their clients soon, and we’re glad T.Jacket is being used in such wonderful ways to help change and touch lives!

Using T.Jacket for children with special needs is only one of the many ways T.Jacket can be used. To the team at T.Ware, T.Jacket is just embarking on its adventure with many paths worth exploring. With your help, T.Jacket will have more of the world to see and more opportunities to help touch lives. We look forward to hearing your ideas. Keep them coming! :)

"I'm glad I bought it" - An intense sensory seeking guest blogger chronicles her experience with T.Jacket

7/5/2014

Ms Kaira Zhang who teaches at one of the universities in Singapore, is, in her own words, an intense sensory seeker. Hear what she has to say about the impact, comfort and appearance of T.Jacket!
I was pretty intrigued when I first heard of T.Jacket. It sounded different from other pressure or weighted vests systems that I’d read about  –  it was app-controlled, had adjustable pressure, a user tracking system, and a lightweight design. Best of all, it was sold from right here in Singapore.

I’ve used other deep pressure products for sensory issues (I’d always been something of an intense sensory seeker). A couple of years back, I bought a beautiful weighted blanket and a lap-pad off Etsy from a mom with a special needs child. I found that the blanket helped greatly with sleep, loved wrapping it around my shoulders while reading, and the lap pad was wonderful to have in the office. I figured that a vest might work just as well, and be way more convenient than either.

With all that in mind, I placed an order with Clement for a sleeveless vest, medium-sized, to be picked up at the end of October 2013.

Impact: Very positive

Upon my first fitting of the T.Jacket at their HQ, I was dismayed to find that while the “pressure profile “was great – it was pushing on and “hugging” in the right places – it just wasn’t giving enough pressure. James responded immediately, finding out precisely how much more pressure I needed, and promised me a customized app that would enable the jacket to give more pressure.

Within a couple of weeks, I had my new 30%-extra app and a much tighter hug. This was significantly better, but somehow – I still needed more pressure in the shoulder area. Again, James and the team took immediate action, this time customizing the jacket so the shoulders fit more snugly to the body and gave more pressure when inflated.

This third time, the T.Jacket was awesome. Its “hug” was soothing and grounding – precisely what I had been looking for. (I was, also, naturally very much impressed with the concern James and the T.Jacket team showed for their clients’ needs). Not just that - I was frankly astonished to find that the T.Jacket hug also worked as a mood lifter – I’m not only calmer when I have it on, but I’m peppier and cheerier. That first afternoon – I didn’t want to take the T.Jacket off!

Over the past ¾ of a year, my favorite ways to use the T.Jacket include wearing it while:
  • Grading papers and getting through other slow-paced work at the office. The mood-up the jacket gives helps make the time spent on that work seem shorter.
  •  Hanging laundry, folding clothes and mopping the apartment – necessary but much detested chores. Ditto – wearing the jacket helps.
  • Lazing on my swing with meditative music playing in the background. I’ve found this to be the loveliest way to unwind, chill and just enjoy “being”, after a long and noisy day at work.
  • Curled up on the sofa with a drink and a good book. The T.Jacket just makes a good book better.
  y(^-^)y

Overall, I found that for me, while the T.Jacket does not really make a great deal of difference to my ability focus on boring tasks (*laughs* well, perhaps nothing will), its hug is extremely soothing and cheering, making my day better.

Comfort: Fine

Comfort-wise, the T.Jacket is quite well-designed. Even when fully inflated, arms and all are completely mobile and unrestricted. I’ve found that typical desk work, picking up stuff at the nearby store, hanging out with family at home and building stuff with Lego is entirely unimpeded.

After using it for almost a year, I've found that the best way to wear the  T.Jacket is to :
  • put on the T.Jacket only after it starts inflating as the pump makes whirring sounds when it first starts inflating.
  • leave the top couple of inches of zipper open - this does not affect the amount of pressure exerted by the T.Jacket and is more more comfortable.

Appearance: Completely acceptable, though it’s not Hollywood bling

As an adult user of the T.Jacket, yes, hugs matter. And looks matter too!

The T.Jacket, undeniably, is not exactly Vogue apparel. It is the grey of television tuned to a dead channel, kind of puffy around the waist even when un-inflated because of the motor unit, and finished with a sturdy canvas-like material. However, the low level of chic is entirely forgivable. After all, it’s a functional piece, not a fashion piece.

The critical concern here is thus not so much that it looks great, but simply that it doesn’t look weird. And get this – it does not.

I gave the fully inflated T.Jacket a trial in the office. Spoke to various colleagues, dropped by the administrative office with the jacket on. Not a single person I knew made any comments about my jackets; my colleagues are a nice, friendly, humorous lot who’d certainly passed a remark or two if the jacket looked bizarre. But no jokes about life vests or personal armour, not even a blink.

Emboldened, I walked around campus with it on. Plenty of students milling around, yet no second glances, no surprised looks as I walked past. None whatsoever; I definitely did not appear to be wearing anything out of the ordinary.

So while the T.Jacket certainly isn’t typical ladies’ fashion or appropriate garb for a night at the opera, it happily does not look odd or in the least bit outlandish and blends right into the crowd.  And this is definitely what matters most for us grown-up users who are hoping to use it places other than our own homes, such as the workplace or on public transport.

The best part about this is that the T.Jacket team is has been working on the aesthetics of the jacket. They’ve already rolled out a version that looks less puffy when inflated with no compromise of pressure. Who knows? Perhaps one day the T.Jacket will be offered in a rainbow of assorted colors, patterns and materials that. I’d love a deep red version with an exterior of velour J In the meanwhile, I’m completely at ease, appearance-wise, with wearing it around the office or when relatives drop by.

Happy, satisfied user’s conclusion: I’m glad I bought it

The T.Jacket is an incredible product that delivers deep, consistent, calming, cheering pressure at the touch of a button.

The product development and customer care team were as incredible as their product, responding to all queries and issues promptly and courteously with genuine concern and customizing the jacket according to my sensory needs.

No regrets purchasing T.Jacket. (What’s more, I might get another one day – one for home and one for office).

Because hugs matter.

Thank you so much for your post, Kaira! We're delighted that T.Jacket has worked well as your constant companion!
